Maletta-Chapter Three Reading Response

I have read and learned about the multiple intelligences before but chapter 3 extended my knowledge greatly. Before reading I only knew that it was good to teach using different multiple intelligences because not all students learn the same way. After reading this chapter I understand more about why multiple intelligences are important and why we teach with them in mind.

Everyone is born with all intelligences but a person tends to develop the ones that are valued by the culture in which they live. It was interesting to learn the multiple intelligences are different ways students solve problems and produce products and each operate form a different part of the brain. Each intelligence is independent for another. The paragraph that compares MI and modalities helped me understand the difference between the two. I now understand that the different between them is modalities is how students take in information (visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic) and MI is how they process information inside the brain in order to making meaning and then use it.

I have always based lessons on MI but I now understand why it is important. After reading this chapter I will not just include the MI in my classroom but I will also help the students to explore and develop each intelligence.
